Atlas webmaster has created this privacy statement in
order to demonstrate a commitment to privacy. The following
discloses the information gathering and dissemination
practices for the Atlas web site.
Information
Automatically Logged
In order to better service the needs of those who visit
the Atlas site, Atlas servers keep track of certain
traffic data. This data includes the platform used (such
as a Macintosh or PC), browser type (such as Netscape
or Microsoft Internet Explorer), IP address (or Internet
Protocol address, which identifies the visitor's service
provider, but not the visitor personally) and the previous
URL (Uniform Resource Locator or web address) visited
by the visitor before clicking through to Atlas. None
of this data discloses personal information, and the
information revealed is used exclusively for internal
administrative purposes such as to help diagnose problems
with Atlas servers , to compute statistics about usage,
and to administer the web site. This data is not used
for any other purpose.
Important:
The LSU CADGIS Research Laboratory,
the sponsor of the Atlas web site, reserves the right
to review and/or monitor system transactions for compliance
with policies and/or applicable law. Upon reasonable
cause, the LSU CADGIS Research Laboratory may disclose
such transactions to authorized persons for official
purposes, including criminal and other investigations,
and permit the monitoring of system transactions by
law enforcement agencies. Access or use of Atlas and
its online facilities by any person, whether authorized
or unauthorized, constitutes consent to these terms.
Cookies
A cookie is a small data file issued to visitors by
certain web sites and is stored on the visitor's hard
drive. A cookie file can contain information such as
a user ID that the site uses to track which pages are
visited - information that is useful for marketing purposes
and to keep high-traffic pages easily accessible to
users. A cookie cannot read or extract information from
a hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites.
Visitors can refuse cookies by turning them off in the
browser.
Atlas
makes minimal use of cookies. Currently, Atlas uses
one non-persistent cookie per application.
Personal
Information
The Atlas web site does not request any personal information
or collect any information that personally identifies
you or allows you to be personally contacted. Since
we do not collect any personal information on this web
site, we do not share any personal information with
any third parties nor do we use any personal information
for any purposes.
Users
of the AtlasAlert email list will need to provide an
email address in order to receive messages. Any email
addresses given for subscription to the AtlasAlert list
will not be given to any third party except authorized
law enforcement agencies with reasonable cause. Only
the Atlas webmaster and appointed auxillaries are able
to post to the list.

This site contains links to other sites. Atlas and its
sponsor, the LSU CADGIS Research Laboratory,
are responsible for neither the privacy practices nor
the content of such web sites.
Security
This site has security measures in place to protect
the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information
under our control.

rapidly evolving nature of technologies the Atlas sponsors
