Why was the data set created?

The purpose of the Marina and Boat Launch Locator is to provide oil spill response organizations (OSROs) with a comprehensive geospatial database of public and semi-private marina and boat launch facilities within southern Louisiana. Oil spill response organizations responding to oil spills will be able to efficiently locate launch facilitates in close proximity of an oil spill by geography.

    Date: 01-Mar-2003 (process 4 of 5)
Collected field data was combined into a single database file. Quality Control / Quality Assurance (QA/QC) was performed on the attribute data. Where possible, domain tables were used to enumerate attribute values. Many Quality Assurance Report (QAR) queries were constructed within the source database to evaluate the data.

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Extensive Quality Control / Quality Assurance (QA/QC) was performed on the attribute data. Where possible domain tables were used to enumerate attribute values. Many Quality Assurance Report (QAR) queries were constructed within the source database to evaluate the data.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

Point positions accurate to 10-30 feet based on the resolution of the GPS unit(s).

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

This data set includes public and semi-private marina and boat launch facilities investigated in southern Louisiana between 1999 and 2002.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

All marina and boat launch facilities have been verified to fall within the state boundary of Louisiana. Positions of all points were calculated using GPS. Data values were stored within a third-normal relational database management system and exported to *.DBF database format for use with ESRI shapefiles.

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
