Frequently-anticipated questions:

What does this data set describe?

    Title:
LDEQ Landsat Seven TM Panchromatic Mosaic of Louisiana UTM15 NAD83, (2002)
    Abstract:
This data set is a satellite image of the lands and waters of the State of Louisiana. It was created by combining fourteen scenes of 15-meter resolution Landsat panchromatic imagery. The original data were geo-rectified and resampled to 12.5-meter cells by the Earth Resources Observation Systems (EROS) Data Center. These data were purchased from EROS by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (northern half of state) and the USGS's National Wetlands Research Center Lafayette (southern half of state). The processing to produce a seamless panchromatic image was performed at LDEQ by a LDEQ contractor. The work was funded by a grant from the US EPA to the LDEQ Non-Point Source Water Pollution Section.

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

Date: Unknown (process 1 of 6)
Original data were geo-rectified and resampled to 12.5-meter cells by EROS Data Center using cubic convolution.

    Date: Jun-2002 (process 2 of 6)
Data were imported from FSTL7 formatted TM 2002 data from source CD's into an ERDAS Imagine format. The panchromatic data were re-projected to the NAD83 UTM Zones 15 and 16, depending on scene center location. The data were burned to CD and transferred to LDEQ.

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Not applicable as this raster data set is unclassified. Values appearing as attributes vary depending on applied contrast stretch.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

1 pixel which is equivalent to 12.5 meters.

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

The entire state of Louisiana out to the State-Federal water boundary is included.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

The imagery exhibits good spatial correspondence to USGS orthophoto imagery in the same coordinate system

How can someone get a copy of the data set?
